Splendor’s Demise
Faintly, there is a chime
Of bells ringing out of time,
Of sails against the creep of rime:
Exquisite, is it not?
Darkly there is a dance
Of a maiden’s daring chance,
Of the soldier’s fated lance:
Antiquity does tend to rot.
Simply, there is a sky
Of shadows that flit and fly,
Of ghosts that chose to die:
Sunrise has at last been shot.
